I may be a Wedding Officiant, but I love to see beautifully decorated Wedding Cakes! I only wish I had to talent to decorate them, but since I don't I admire the experts! I feel a wedding cake just as the wedding ceremony should reflect the couple's personality. Just about anything can inspire the design of your wedding cake; the venue, your hobby, your favorite color, your favorite flowers, your love of anything modern, or your wedding theme. Perhaps you saw a picture of a beautiful cake online, in a magazine, or you can ask for favorite bakery for wedding cake designs.

I am always amazed how beautiful wedding cakes look, but no matter how beautiful the cake is, the cake should taste amazing too! I once heard from one the best cake companies located in Orlando; Priscilla said “ Your cake should leave a lasting impression. It's the first thing your guests see and the last thing they taste”. How true is that statement!

I use pinterest, instragram, and my website to post beautiful wedding cakes and I have noticed a trend for 2017. Here is a sample of what I have found:

White Cakes
White on white cakes can be very elegant! All a white wedding cake would need is interesting white embellishments in the design. It's all in the details, perhaps using interesting designs, jewels, flowers, traditional and nontraditional shapes, lace design, pearls, bows, sparkles, bling; mostly adding texture and dimension.

Black Cakes
A dramatic black wedding cake can be an alternative to a traditional white wedding cake. It can still be elegant, but also bold and prominent and a striking statement! It does not have to be all black, color can be used for contrast. I have seen black and white cakes, black, white and red cakes, black and pink, black and purple, it can really be any combination but predominately black. The design can have details to embellish the cake with the same as a white cake; designs, jewels, flowers, lace, bows, pearls, traditional and nontraditional shapes, bling and sparkles can also add texture and dimension.

Naked Cakes
Yes, I said a nake cake! It can be used for a rustic feel. A nake cake does not have frosting on the outside, inside can be have a filling or just a hint of buttercream frosting on the outside or showing between layers. A naked cake can be perfect for people who do not like a very sweet cake. Fruit and flowers can decorate a naked cake.

Metallic cakes
If you want a cake with a stylish shimmer or bling, that a metallic cake is for you. A glittery frost can be used to catch the light in elegant ballrooms. Some people prefer just to use a shimmery ribbon or border to add shine instead of the entire cake sparkling. A metallic cake can be gold, silver, pewter, copper, bronze or simply any color with glitter. These cakes can also be embellished with pearls, bows, flowers, jewels, lace, traditional and nontraditional shapes.

Textured or Ruffled cakes
A textured or ruffled design can give a romantic and delicate look to any wedding cake. An intricate pattern can add texture or layers using the cake frosting or fondant to give a 3D effect. Geometic patterns can also add texture to a wedding cake. Flowers can finish off the look.

Artsy Cakes
Wedding cakes can be hand painted to look marbleized or have a stained-glass look. Fresh flowers or painted flowers can be used on an artsy cake.
